July Poetry Dump - The Blog

I'm trying something new, writing poetry and stories. I even started writing a slice of life book. Here is my first poetry dump, I am going to try to get one of these dumps per month to keep the writing brain fresh, so enjoy!

I smile at strangers

You read that right, I'm that weird guy, who meets your eye in the street

I reveal my teeth, like a predator intimidating it's prey, ready to strike at any moment

You get scared, turn, look away by instinct

Next person, smiles, goes "Hey, I like your style"

That's how it started

Flames crackling

Bodies fully exposed, no clothes allowed

Humidity at redicioulous levels, rising

Metal cans clashing

Door opens, then closes fast, another free man joins

It gets hard to breathe, sweat pouring, rivers forming down legs

Someone opens the door, runs out, jumps in the water, the rest follow, life is good

Future with them

They were sitting in the park reading a book

I approached, asked what is that book?

We talked, we got kids, we got married.

All in my mind, but for real, I just walked by

The end of a storyarc

You know like in movies, where the plotline ends and another begins

The main character overcomes their largest fear, the conflict ends, love dies

Sometimes you will have those moments

Let it end, let it go and be ready for what life gives in the next one

Last times

Last time pressing the code into the door

Last time seeing that legendary disco lamp

Last time appreciating the sideways cans on the floor

The views from the balcony I will never step on again

The time it takes for my spit to hit the ground below

The church way out in the distance, it will never be seen from this angle by me again

The sound the spit makes when it hits the ground.

Thanks for all the memories and the friends we made along the way
